DATEM’s Makati Commerce Tower project bagged the 2024 Philippine Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards (PECCA) for the high-rise structure category.

PECCA aims to recognize outstanding concrete projects in the Philippines that celebrate innovation and technology and inspire excellence throughout the global concrete design and construction community. The program is organized by the ACI Philippines Chapter and the Philippine Constructors Association (PCA).

The entries—any concrete construction project substantially completed from January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2023—were judged based on the following criteria: engineering, functionality/creativity, aesthetics/appearance, and innovative use of concrete.

The 37-storey Makati Commerce Tower is a new landmark underpinning sustainability and wellness in office towers located along Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City and developed by Empresas Diesel.

The construction of the Makati Commerce Tower utilized 55,548 cubic meters of concrete, solidifying the structure’s safety and resilient foundations. Using DATEM precast such as slabs, walls, and stairs was vital to attaining this achievement.

The concrete used in the project was carefully and efficiently identified and applied to ensure 3S: the sturdiness of the structure for having use of 10,00 and 9,000 psi concrete; the safety of the building occupants; and its sustainability as the client and contractor’s manifest of malasakit to the environment.

Moreover, the careful selection of concrete applied in the construction also helped achieve LEED credits due to its local harvesting and manufacturing and for having recycled content, also called fly ash.

This component is one of the big-ticket items based on cost, contributing significantly to achieving material credits for the LEED certification and receiving the first LEED Platinum version 4.0 under the LEED BD+C: Core and Shell rating system.

The sustainable office building includes touchless technology solutions to reduce common touch points, energy-saving features, parking with charging points for electric vehicles, and a unitized glass curtain wall façade insulated with low-e coating for improved thermal and acoustic properties.
