DATEM’s Makati Commerce Tower project with the LEED version 4 Platinum certification emblem

DATEM’s Makati Commerce Tower project received the first Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) version 4: Building Design and Construction: Core and Shell Development Platinum certification for the Philippines from the US Green Building Council for its significant green building design, construction, and operation.

Introduced in 1998, LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a globally recognized symbol of excellence in green building. LEED certification ensures electricity cost savings, lower carbon and healthier environments where people live, work, learn, play and worship. The council said that in the United States alone, buildings account for almost 40 percent of national CO2 emissions, but LEED-certified buildings have 34 percent lower CO2 emissions, consume 25 percent less energy and 11 percent less water, and have diverted more than 80 million tons of waste from landfills.

As a powerhouse green building rating system for the excellent sustainable building and property industry, USGBC defined the LEED version 4 is given to building projects that raised the standards for energy efficiency, water conservation, site and material selection, day lighting, and waste reduction.

The LEED for Building Design and Construction: Core and Shell Development is the rating system fit for the buildings that are newly-constructed or undergoing major renovation for the exterior shell and core mechanical, electrical, and plumbing units. Currently being erected along Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City, the 36-storey tower project qualified the certification criteria.

DATEM reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and intensifies nature-based actions to mitigate climate change while it forwards development through its infrastructures. The certification also incentivizes the dedication of the project team and workers to meet these objectives.

Also part of the distinction, the USGBC grants training to the Property Management Team of the Makati Commerce Tower to bring forth practical and measurable green building strategies to benefit the offices and community.

Meanwhile, the project’s LEED consultant, Barone International, expressed their commendation for the dedication and commitment to sustainability of the project team that pushed them beyond limits and delivered exceptional results.
