The Teal and Gray team head on to the first basketball match in DATEM’s sportsfest this 2023. Basketball is one of the anticipated sporting events in this year’s sportsfest, along with volleyball, bowling, badminton and esports (Mobile Legends).

To solidify camaraderie and sportsmanship among employees, DATEM kicked off the 2023 Sportsfest on May 12 at Victoria Sports Tower after a 3-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

DATEM President Ar. Lesley Espiritu-Villanueva underscores the role of the sportsfest as a manifestation of DATEM’s core value, teamwork, not only in implementing projects but in elevating camaraderie and nurturing old and new relationships among internal stakeholders.

During the opening ceremony, the five teams, composed of DATEM’s groups and subsidiaries and named after DATEM’s brand colors (teal, cobalt, navy blue, gray, and white), actively participated in the parade. Banners are donned in front of each team’s parade and represented by their respective muses—another first in DATEM’s sportsfest history.

Sportsfest coordinator Junedy Malinao noted that these activities boost employee engagement and aim to showcase employee talents in different sporting events. Five (5) sporting events are lined up, namely basketball, volleyball, bowling, and the newly added sports of badminton and e-sports (Mobile Legends).

Before the games, the crowd enthusiastically joined the minigames. Tokens were given to the winners. A song number followed to steer the mood in the Sports Tower.

Participants raced to the host to participate in the Bring Me game.

The team captains of the five competing teams led the Oath of Sportsmanship.

In the opening ceremony, basketball and volleyball matches lit up the sports venue, launching the much awaited sportsfest.

The Teal team grinded out the Gray team in their basketball match, advancing them to the next round.

In the volleyball match, the Cobalt and White teams faced each other on opposite sides of the net. The lady spikers rallied in the match, but the White team received their victory.

Nearly 400 attendees flocked to the Sports Tower to show their support for their teams’ bet. More matches are coming up until September, including the culmination of the sporting events.
